The Diageo World Class Competition, the most prestigious event in the bartending industry, is making a much-anticipated return to Hong Kong and Macau. To kick it off, 20 mixologists from both cities will participate in a World Class Cocktail Festival running until May 10, where everyone is invited to try these exceptional drinks.
The 20 participating bartenders in Hong Kong and Macau were tasked to create their cocktails according to two themes: “Beyond A Nightcap,” using Johnnie Walker Black Label, and “2030 Margarita,” reimagining the classic Margarita with Don Julio. Each of these drinks showcases the mixologist’s expertise, innovation, personality, and passion.
In Hong Kong, the participating bars are Argo, Bar Leone, COA, Dio Café Bar, Gishiki Lounge, Lockdown, Mercury Recalls, Ozone, Penicillin, Qura, The Old Man, and 001 Bar. In Macau, the participating bars are Aji (MGM Cotai), Aux Beaux Arts (MGM Macau), Gordon Ramsay Pub and Grill (The Londoner Macao), The Mews (The Londoner Macau), and Vida Rica Bar (The Mandarin Oriental Macau).
Excitingly, cocktail enthusiasts will get the chance to try out the drinks that are in the running for Diageo World Class Competition and crowning its creator the crown of Bartender of the Year. They are available at the participating bars until May 10, starting from HK$120.
After the Diageo World Class Cocktail Festival, the top 12 bartenders will be chosen to compete in the semi-finals in early June. Afterwards, only one mixologist will advance to the global stage at the Diageo World Class Global Final, taking place in Shanghai this September.
Take this opportunity to try out some of the city’s best and most creative cocktails. You might even find yourself trying something by the next Diageo World Class Bartender of the Year.
