Bruichladdich announces its first-ever 18 and 30-Year-Old single malt whisky

Bruichladdich has just announced its first-ever supply of high vintage whiskies in the 18 and 30-year-old Single Malt Scotch Whisky series.

Set for a permanent run, the Islay-distilled whisky sees an industry-first recyclable proprietary packaging. Created by UK’s James Cropper, the eco-friendly package design sees a fully recycled paper pulp in the shape of the bottle made from 60% recycled glass. This packaging is lightweight, free from plastics, and made using 100% environmentally friendly energy.

Adam Hannett, the Master Distiller of Bruichladdich comments on the 18-year-old single malt: “This is a truly traceable single malt whisky, and all the elements of The Bruichladdich Eighteen are fully traceable, from the barley that was harvested at a specific time, to the type of barley, to the casks in which it was aged. For a whisky of such high vintage, this is to be applauded.”

Since the restoration of the the distillery in 2001, Bruichladdich has been meticulously on building back the essence of its expressions and the land surrounding the distillery. This has culminated into quality raw materials and over 20 agricultural partners from Islay that produced over 50% of the barely used. The Bruichladdich Eighteen is aged on the island of Islay in mostly old bourbon casks and a few wine casks, making it a great example of the brand’s peat-free wines. It offers flavours of honey, milk hard candy, and orange zest, with a finish of tropical fruits and toasted oak.

Where the 18 Year Old tells of the new chapter of the distillery, the 30 Year Old holds memories of the past when in 1994 the Bruichladdich distillery almost closed and production stopped. The liquid in the 30-year-old was remnants of barrels that were safeguarded by the last two remaining employees. These barrels were kept deep in the warehouse where they only surfaced again in 2001 when production resumed.

Hannett explains: “The Bruichladdich Thirty marks a turning point in the distillery by using a collection of whiskies that were distilled at the time, almost lost forever, but fortunately preserved. This 30-year-old single malt whisky not only celebrates the renaissance of our Victorian distillery but also pays homage to the people who have contributed to the production of whisky over the last 30 years”.

The Bruichladdich Thirty is aged in carefully selected, highly prized old bourbon casks. An exquisite and limited production single malt Scotch Whisky, The Bruichladdich Thirty is bottled at 43.2% alcohol by volume, with a soft sweetness of toasted oak, honey, and vanilla. Delicate richly layered dark chocolate flavours add to the elegant floral aroma, and a touch of sea air, paying homage to a whisky made entirely on the island of Islay.

The Bruichladdich 18 and 30 are both currently available where the 18 is priced at £150 and the 30 at £1,500.
