The Master Blender’s Selection debuted in 2016 with edition No 1. Since then, four blends have been produced in small batches with No 4 releasing in 2021. Following a three-year hiatus, we now receive Master Blender’s Selection No 5 which has been meticulously curated under the expert eye of 8th-generation master blender Renaud Filioux de Gironde.
Often considered the best-kept secret of the Hennessy range, the Master Blender’s Selection is composed of unique blends that will never be replicated again. The latest edition enlists the expertise of the Maison’s 18 exceptional distillers who play a crucial role in enhancing and concentrating the selected eaux-de-vie that Renaud specifically chose for their distinct qualities. The crafting process involved a diligent selection process followed by a maturing process of at least seven years in French oak barrels, giving the cognac its aromatic complexity and signature deep amber hues.
The resulting marvel is one of candied orange and spice, with delightful pastry notes of cocoa and subtle tobacco. As Hennessy’s only cognac bottled at 43%, the blend is best drunk neat or on the rocks with family and friends.
“Being the 8th generation Master Blender is a tremendous honour, and I feel privileged to be able to continue the craft that was passed down to me by my uncle Yann Fillioux,” writes Renaud. “With Master Blender’s Selection No 5, I opted for an innovative approach blend produced in a single batch that will never be replicated – this limited edition is a celebration of the collaborative spirit and expertise in the world of Cognac.”
The Master Blender’s Selection No 5 is now available at major retail wine shops in Hong Kong and Macau.
