Pastry lovers, you can soon get Hong Kong’s favourite egg tart all across Hong Kong. Bakehouse is expanding its reach to New Territories with two new stores in Tung Chung and Sha Tin.
The bakery is expanding into New Territories, sharing its pastries with more areas in Hong Kong. The new Bakehouse location at Citygate Outlets in Tung Chung has just opened on October 15. Afterwards, the bakery will open a bakery-café at New Town Plaza in Sha Tin. This location is slated to open in January 2025.
“By bringing Bakehouse to the New Territories, our products will be more accessible beyond our stores in the busiest areas of Hong Kong and Kowloon,” said Bakehouse founder Grégoire Michaud. “Everything we create is a labour of love – we only use the highest quality ingredients and everything is freshly baked in-store. This is what our guests can expect from every Bakehouse experience, and we’re excited to share this with more communities and neighbourhoods in Hong Kong.”
Bakehouse opens its first New Territories location in Tung Chung
Its first location in New Territories has officially opened at Citygate Outlets, Tung Chung. Those in the district can also enjoy the bakery’s signature offerings for takeaway. Or, they can also sit down in the outdoor dining area. A crowd of over 100 gathered at the store before it officially opened at 10 a.m., showing people’s excitement for the new shop.
Bakehouse also introduced three items exclusive to the Tung Chung branch. The Milk Tea Honey Toast Danish is a homage to Hong Kong-style milk tea, using homemade honey butter and milk tea-infused cream. Meanwhile, the Tai O Umami Roll features hand-stir-fried shrimp roe from Yick Cheong Ho in Tai O. It’s packed together with parmesan and scallion in a Danish pastry and then finished with a sweet soy glaze. Finally, the Tiramisu Soft Serve is mascarpone soft serve with ladyfingers soaked in Bakehouse’s Cold Brew, then topped with a dust of cocoa powder.
The first 50 customers at the Tung Chung shop also got to try the bakery’s new line of canned drinks. These drinks come in four flavours: Lok San Faa Lemonade, Sparkling Lemon Jasmine Tea, Lychee & Ginger Soda, and Sparkling Peach Earl Grey.
Continuing to expand

After the Tung Chung store opening, next in line is the new Sha Tin branch. In the Bakehouse bakery-café concept coming to Sha Tin, customers can expect a similar menu to the Wan Chai branch. A number of à la carte dishes are available such as breakfast bites, sandwiches, salads, desserts, and more. Of course, most of the items on the menu feature its baked goods. There’s also a lunch set available for those looking for a mid-day mood-booster. Don’t forget to try out the drinks, ranging from coffee and tea to juice and cocktails.
Chef Grégoire Michaud also revealed his future plans for the bakery. “We’re excited to open our sixth location at Citygate Outlets as part of our plan to double our business to 10 stores by the end of 2025,” he says. “At the heart of Bakehouse is our commitment to bring our breads and pastries to neighbourhoods all around Hong Kong. … We see this expansion as a way to enhance our presence and meet the growing demand for our products.”
