Okinawa’s Yanbaru Gelato launches Yonna Yonna Gelato in Hong Kong

Yonna Yonna Gelato is bringing the vibrant flavours of Okinawa to Hong Kong this November. As an offshoot of the award-winning Yanbaru Gelato, the opening will mark the global debut of the Okinawan brand’s new concept. The shop is set to open at The Twins in Kai Tak.

In the Okinawan dialect, “yonna yonna” means to “take time to enjoy life”. Yonna Yonna Gelato is an embodiment of that same laid-back spirit of Okinawa. Expect the refreshing flavours of seasonal fruits and plants native to the prefecture. Whether it’s gelato, smoothies, or caffeine-free Okinawa herbal tea, the shop has much to offer for everyone to enjoy.

“We are thrilled to share our unique gelato with dessert lovers in Hong Kong as our fresh new concept, Yonna Yonna Gelato, makes its global debut,” says Kazuo Kokuba, Founder of Yanbaru Gelato. “Each cup reflects the treasures of our Okinawa homeland, created by our talented gelato maestros, Shibano-san and Yonemori-san, who continually seek out exciting new ingredients from our islands.”

Signature offerings from Yonna Yonna Gelato

Here, the gelato is the star of the show. The flavours are made with fresh fruits of the season, flown directly from Okinawa. Nakijin watermelon, Chanchan mango, Gold Barrel pineapple, Okinawa lime — each bite will transport you to the “Southern Paradise”. Better yet, the gelato is a healthy alternative to traditional ice cream with less calories, sugar, and fat.

At the launch of Yonna Yonna Gelato, customers can enjoy Yanbaru Gelato’s award-winning flavour, the Orange Vanilla Mascarpone. Other highlights include Iejima Sweet Potato and Marron Glaces. Vegans can also enjoy a wide range of options certified by the Japan Vegan Association. Vegan-friendly flavours include Okinawa Mango, Nakijin Watermelon, Katsuyama Shikuwasa, and Pineapple & Tankan Mandarin.

Customers can enjoy the gelato by the cup. Want to take it home? The signature gelato is also available in 500g family-size containers for takeout. If you’re looking for something to drink, the gelato smoothies and Okinawa herbal tea are also a house speciality.

A commitment to sustainability and authenticity

The brand partners directly with local farmers to support their work. It consciously gathers “substandard” fruit and plants that would normally be discarded. These fruits only have slight external imperfections, but their flesh is still perfectly suitable for use. The partnership with farms also guarantees the fruits’ quality and taste.
