Luckin Coffee expands into Hong Kong with shops in Tsim Sha Tsui and Tseung Kwan O

Luckin Coffee, the largest coffee chain in Mainland China, is heading over to Hong Kong. The chain officially announced its first outlet in Mira Place, Tsim Sha Tsui. Many have also spotted a second store in preparation at MCP Central, Tseung Kwan O.

Coffee lovers, you’re in luck! Luckin Coffee, known for its delicious drinks and affordability, is expanding into Hong Kong. Two branches have been spotted making preparations across the city. The hoardings display its slogan, “A Lucky Day starts with Luckin Coffee”.

Luckin Coffee prepares to enter the Hong Kong market

The coffee chain announced that it will open its first store in Mira Place at Tsim Sha Tsui. The location will be directly adjacent to Starbucks. People have also noticed a second location in the works at MCP Central in Tseung Kwan O, which also houses Starbucks. This reflects the aggressive expansion strategy that the chain has become known for. Currently, an opening date for either store has not yet been announced.

Many customers are hoping the chain will adopt the same pricing and promotions available in mainland China. There, Luckin Coffee’s drinks can start from as low as RMB 9.9. The chain’s expansion into the city means Hong Kongers can soon enjoy a more affordable option for coffee. Not only that, but it could potentially set a new status quo with lower prices in the local coffee market.

More about Luckin Coffee

Luckin Coffee was first founded in 2017. The Xiamen-based company runs a completely cashless format, requiring customers to download its app to place orders and make online payments. Aside from coffee, it also offers tea and food items at its shops, stores, and kiosks. It also grabbed attention for its innovative collaboration with Moutai. The chain grew rapidly in China, surpassing Starbucks in terms of number of stores in 2019 and now boasting over 20,000 locations. It first began its global expansion in 2023 with an opening in Singapore. Currently, there are rumours that Luckin Coffee is also planning to enter the US market, challenging Starbucks on its home turf.
