Four-time Grand Slam champion and former world No. 1 Naomi Osaka will participate in the WTA 250 Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open taking place in October. The championship, which will run from October 26 to November 3, is set to feature a host of other international stars like Simona Halep and Leylah Fernandez.
Naomi Osaka’s upcoming visit marks her return to the city for the first time since she played the Hong Kong Tennis Open in 2017 and 2018. Osaka is the first Japanese tennis player to have won a Grand Slam as well as the first player in Asia to hold the top singles ranking for 21 weeks starting January 2019.

For Osaka’s upcoming outing at Victoria Park, she will be joined by another former world No. 1 Simona Halep, British No. 1 Katie Boulter, former US Open champion Emma Raducanu and defending champion Leylah Fernandez. Russia’s Diana Shnaider and Anastasia Potapova will also be joining the star-studded lineup.
China’s Paris Olympics mixed doubles silver medalist Wang Xinyu as well as rising players Yuan Yue and Wang Xiyu are also set to participate. All the players will compete for a total prize of USD 250,000 (HKD 1.94 million).
Apart from boosting women’s tennis in the city, the event will feature Chill and Fun Hong Kong Market, boasting incredible local handicrafts, merchandise and delicious traditional food.
The women’s event will be followed by Hong Kong’s men’s tournament, which is also a 250-level event forming the final instalment in the three-tournament tennis series in Hong Kong. The first event, the lower-tier Prudential Hong Kong Tennis 125 tournament, took place at Victoria Park this month.
