'Gangnam B-Side' episode release schedule

Disney Plus is aiming to replicate the success of recently concluded fantasy drama The Judge from Hell starring Park Shin-hye with crime thriller Gangnam B-Side. So, here is all about the plot, episode release schedule, and other necessary details of Gangnam B-side that you wanted to know.

Written by Jo Won-gyu, the 2024 crime thriller K-drama follows a demoted detective Kang Dong-woo struggling hard to prove himself by taking up a series of missing person cases after the disappearance of his daughter’s friend Kim Jae-hee. Helping him navigate the truth in a world of vice, drugs and corruption in Gangnam is famous broker and pimp Yoon Gil-ho.

Starring Jo Woo-jin as Kang Dong-woo, BIBI as Kim Jae-hee and Ji Chang-wook as Yoon Gil-ho, Gangnam B-Side enjoyed a special screening in the On Screen section of the 29th Busan International Film Festival. The 2024 K-drama is helmed by Park Noo-ri, who has previously directed the Ryu Jun-yeol starrer thriller movie Money (2019).

Talking about his character Gil-ho, actor Ji Chang-wook shared in a 2024 press conference, “Since the character lives in the gritty underbelly of Gangnam, I wanted him to reflect the harsh reality of someone at rock bottom. From the costumes to the makeup, I put a lot of thought into it.”

What has happened in Gangnam B-Side so far?

In the first episode of the series, viewers meet Kang Dong-woo, an honest detective struggling to balance his career and family life. On the personal front, he and his ex-wife co-parent their daughter, who is undergoing therapy after attempting suicide due to severe bullying at school. At work, he gets demoted after uncovering a drug racket that threatened to topple some of Gangnam’s wealthiest elites.

Three years later, when the murder of a call girl working for pimp Yoon Gil-ho and a series of missing person cases create chaos in Gangnam, Dong-woo is transferred back to Seoul.

Elsewhere, Gil-ho learns that another of his call girls, Jae-hee too has gone missing. Enraged, he vows to find the culprits. Meanwhile, Min Seo-jin, a prosecutor, who has been working her way up the ranks with no connections, is assigned the murder case. However, she is left in a dilemma when her superiors plan to frame Gil-ho as the culprit to safeguard the real criminals and instruct her to cooperate with them.

In episode two, Dong-woo recalls how the missing call girl Jae-hee used to be his daughter Ye-seo’s best friend. Later, when Ye-seo requests Dong-woo to find Jae-hee, Dong-woo tracks down Gil-ho. He soon learns that a broker, Psyche, has fixed a meeting with Gil-ho and is supposed to meet him in Gangnam. Once they get to the exact location, Dong-woo and former police officer Kim Jang-ho wait for Gil-ho to arrive.

However, Gil-ho is attacked by Psyche’s men and severely injured before he can reach the location. A few moments later, a team of police officers who were tipped about Gil-ho’s location by Seo-jin’s superior and Psyche, reach to arrest Gil-ho. However, Dong-woo, who gets the idea that Gil-ho is being framed, arrives to rescue him and threatens to shoot the team of officers if they attack or follow them. Amid the chaos, Gil-ho jumps over a nearby bridge onto a river and escapes.
