Rainforest Wild Asia: What to know about the new 5th wildlife park in Singapore

Nature lovers and explorers can immerse in a lush tropical rainforest at Rainforest Wild Asia, the fifth wildlife park in Singapore, starting March 2025.

The Mandai locality in Singapore is home to hundreds of animals in the Singapore Zoo, River Safari, and Bird Paradise. Come March 2025, visitors can embark on an adventure to seek wildlife and conquer specialised forest trails at Rainforest Wild Asia.

Part of Mandai Wildlife Reserve, Rainforest Wild Asia is Singapore’s fifth zoological park inspired by natural treks through rainforests. This first phase opening offers a plethora of experiences in an immersive rainforest setting – from relaxing and challenging walkways to guided climbing paths.

Rainforest Wild Asia consists of 10 different zones and is home to 29 iconic animal species, including new-to-Singapore species like the François’ langur (one of the rarest monkey species in the world) and the Philippine spotted deer. To recreate the rainforest setting, close to 7,000 Southeast Asian trees and shrubs have been planted to supplement the existing protected patches of rainforest.

Although designed with elements that mainly appeal to adventure-seeking individuals, the 13-hectare Rainforest Wild Asia is site-friendly to visitors of all ages. It’s recommended that all guests come equipped with comfortable walking shoes and  a sense of adventure for their rainforest explorations.

Wide elevated walkways with sheltered rest stops that outline the trail, Rainforest Wild Asia ensures accessibility to all, including families with strollers and wheelchair users, providing opportunities for easy strolls to view diverse rainforest landscapes and animals.

Those seeking a stimulating experience can attempt to venture along forest trails scattered with fallen logs, boulders, streams and bridges. For daredevils, there are opportunities to purchase harnessed experiences and guided tours offering high-element trails across rock faces, freefall jumps, and challenging caving adventures.

Animal spotting in Rainforest Wild Asia

Flexible habitats are introduced in Rainforest Wild Asia among the Mandai Wildlife Reserve attractions for the first time.

Visitors can glimpse the daily routines of animals like red dholes and babirusas. These dynamic habitats provide stimulating environments for the animals, encouraging natural behaviours while allowing visitors to observe these behaviours, creating meaningful educational experiences.

At the Karsts, jagged limestone formations peek through the canopy, creating one of the park’s most scenic backdrops. Guests can enjoy views of primates swinging, leaping and traversing the environment. Those seeking a challenge can manoeuvre across the sheer cliffs along a via ferrata path under a guided tour.

Rock Cascade

Elsewhere at the Rock Cascade is the home to the charismatic Malayan tiger. Guests can observe the majestic cats display their power and agility as they meander through waterfalls, streams, rocky outcrops and clusters of trees.

The Canopy

Visitors must make a stop at the majestic Cavern chambers. Inspired by the world-famous Mulu Caves in Sarawak, one of the largest and most intricate cave systems in Southeast Asia and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the attraction is recreated faithfully in collaboration with the Sarawak Forestry Department.

The design team scanned the rock features of Mulu Caves to capture details of the intricate ancient rock formations created through the ages by Mother Nature. Visitors can choose to progress along safe and engaging subterranean walkways or paths that feature  cave species including racer snakes and giant black scorpions. An adrenaline rush is guaranteed here.

In a press release, it was confirmed that the next phase of Rainforest Wild Asia is Rainforest Wild Africa, inspired by the diverse landscapes of the Afro-Tropical region and Madagascar.

Rainforest Wild Asia in Singapore is scheduled to open in March 2025 within the Mandai Wildlife Reserve enclave.
