Taylor Swift isn’t engaged, but we’d love to see these maisons design her wedding dress

Over one year since Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce became her “Lover”, Taylor Swift is looking happier than ever — and Swifties are living for it. The couple’s rom-com coded romance is still making headlines, with one thing on everybody’s minds: Is an engagement on the way? And most importantly, which maisons could Taylor Swift tap to design her future wedding dress? Read on for our guesses.

If there is any fandom you can count on to love the concept of love, it’s Swifties. With iconic, romantic songs like “Love Story”, “Paper Rings”, “Speak Now”, and others to her name, it comes as little surprise that Swift loves the heady joys of romance — and who can blame her? Perhaps it is counterintuitive to put the horse before the cart, but the couple’s public romance has become fuel for rampant speculations among fans, many of whom believe an engagement is in the cards.

Neither Swift nor Kelce have addressed rumours of their engagement. However, their relationship has been the subject of much (unfair) scrutiny, given Swift’s eternal presence within the public eye. From an alleged ‘breakup contract’ to rumours of growing discontent within their relationship, the Travis relationship has survived more than its fair share of ludicrous claims. But one thing has rung true across their time together: Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce show up for one another when it matters.

A case for a successful partnership

Despite the best efforts of internet trolls and clout chasers, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce have managed to remain happily coupled up. For context: On September 5, a contract was leaked onto r/TravisKelceSnark on reddit, detailing the couple’s ‘showmance’ with further details about their ‘breakup’ come September 28.

To nobody’s surprise, September 28 came and went without incident, once again showing us the dubious nature of internet claims from faceless strangers. While the ensuing media frenzy surrounding the leaked documents was immediate and relentless, Tayvis maintained their composure, with sources close to the couple even revealing to The Daily Mail that they found the entire incident ludicrous and hilarious.

In the meantime, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce have continued to do what they do best for one another: show up. In between legs of the Eras tour and the NFL’s playing season, the couple have made several public appearances, from swanky date nights in New York City to a sporty outing at the tennis US Open.

To note: Swift raced halfway across the world to attend Kelce’s Super Bowl final match and cheered him on as his team hoisted the trophy. Also of note: Kelce has steadily attended Swift’s Eras tour shows across the world, sent her flowers to celebrate the conclusion of her Europe leg, and has generally been open and genuine about his feelings for her.

Kelce’s “White Horse” style of showing love has not gone unnoticed among Swifties, many of whom have fallen just as quickly in love with him as Swift herself has. And given the upcoming end of the Eras tour and questions on the horizon about Swift’s plans for after, many have floated marriage as a possibility — and for good reason.

In May, a source close to the couple shared with US Weekly that Kelce wasn’t ready to tie the knot, saying, “Marriage is something he takes very seriously and not something he would ever just jump into without giving it some careful consideration.” More recently, however, a new source has shared that the Chiefs tight end may have arrived at the crucial point, having ‘dropped hints to those close to him’ that a proposal could be forthcoming.

Add onto that the fact that sources have claimed Swift feels ‘safe and protected’ with Kelce — in a way that she has not felt with any other partner — and we have ourselves a recipe for an enduring, respectful, and loving relationship. And, Swift’s friends appear to agree.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, Stevie Nicks, once vocalist of Fleetwood Mac, proponent of the TikTok-famous sound “Silver Springs”, and friend to Taylor Swift said, “She is really smart, but she also went through a lot before. She’s in a good place right now, and I think she has a good man. I hope they fall deeper and deeper in love and ride off into the sunset. He does his thing and she does her thing, and then they come back together and get married and have babies if she wants that. I just want all of that for her.”

While neither party have confirmed an engagement or wedding in the future, fans are hopeful for Swift to find her happily ever after. In the meantime, the question remains: which designer, or designers could Taylor Swift tap to design her future wedding dress? We dig into some of our favourites.

Taylor Swift is no stranger to the exquisite designs of British designer Vivienne Westwood. The celebrity-favourite designer is a prominent name in pop culture, with her bridal design work taking centre stage in the Sex and the City movie in 2008, where Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) opted for a Vivienne Westwood gown for her wedding with Mr. Big.

In the real world, Swift has also proven herself a fan of Westwood’s designs. In August this year, the singer drew eyes in London when she was photographed wearing a plaid Vivienne Westwood plaid suit worth USD 2,000. Additionally, Swift also wears a custom white gown from Vivienne Westwood during The Tortured Poets Department era in the Eras tour.

Elie Saab

Yet another designer that frequently dresses Swift for events and concerts, Elie Saab has long been known for his breathtaking gowns and graceful, elegant designs. Across her years in the industry, Swift has worn numerous Elie Saab ensembles to grace the red carpet, from iconic red ballgowns to a chic teal number at the 2015 Grammy Awards. Swift has also worn Elie Saab ballgowns while performing on the Eras tour. It goes without saying that an Elie Saab wedding gown would feature both his trademark dramatic flair and attention to detail, leading to an exquisite sight, indeed.

Roberto Cavalli

Within Swift’s Eras tour wardrobe lies a treasure trove of designs from Italian designer maison Roberto Cavalli. From her iconic Fearless fringed dresses and her Reputation bodysuit to her mix-and-match ensemble of tops and skirts for the 1989 era, Swift has proven her dedication to spotlighting Cavalli’s designs. Outside of the Eras tour, Swift has also tapped Cavalli to dress her for significant occasions, including the 2023 Grammy Awards, where she dazzled in a midnight blue co-ord set and USD 3.11 million in Lorraine Schwartz jewellery.

Yet another celebrity-favourite maison, Oscar de la Renta has counted itself among Swift’s go-to staple for award shows and other red-carpet events for years. From her exquisite, bustled blush creation at the 2014 Met Gala to her vivid blue laced gown at the premiere of the Eras tour movie, the maison has delivered time and time again.

Add onto that the spring-inspired floral-applique number that Swift wore to the 63rd annual Grammy Awards and a gorgeous Midnights era bodysuit for the Eras tour, and we’ve got a winning formula. Without a doubt, Oscar de la Renta is a strong contender in this list of brands that Taylor Swift could tap to design her wedding dress — when the time comes.

Alberta Ferretti

Known for her whimsical and beautiful works of art in the design sphere, Italian fashion designer Alberta Ferretti is a favourite on the Eras tour. Her work for Swift includes the flowy, folksy gowns of the Folklore era, which feature elegant beadwork, intricate embroidery, and flowing, undulating layers often favoured for wedding dresses.

J. Mendel

Favoured by members of high society and celebrities alike, J. Mendel has found success in Swift’s wardrobe at least a couple of times over the years. Earlier on in 2013, Swift had made waves on the red carpet of the 55th Annual Grammy Awards by channelling Grecian goddess vibes in an ivory chiffon creation from the label. Three years later in 2016, the singer once again wore a J. Mendel creation: a pale blue gown for the “Out of the Woods” music video. And again, in 2019, Swift stunned in a dreamy pastel pink and yellow gown from the label as she attended the Time 100 gala, playing up the romanticism of her most popular musical numbers.

If there’s one designer with a penchant for flair to match Elie Saab’s, it’s Lebanese designer Zuhair Murad. Murad’s stunning gowns have become an integral part of Swift’s Eras tour wardrobe; the label made a strong showing with a sequinned soft pink ballgown for the Speak Now set, as well as multiple iterations of bedazzled, spangled blue bodysuits for the Midnights set. Outside of the groundbreaking Eras tour, Swift has also tapped Murad for red carpet events. While attending the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show afterparty in 2014, the star opted for a sleek evening gown with a crystal-embellished sheer bodice from the Zuhair Murad Couture Fall/Winter 2014 collection, striking a stunning vision in white.

Maison Schiaparelli

Who could ever forget the iconic white wedding dress that Swift wore to the 66th Grammy Awards, held in January of 2024? The gown, which featured a structured bodice, a thigh-high slit, and an elegant, draped train, was custom-made by Paris-based maison Schiaparelli. As per the house, it is described as a ‘off-white silk crepe draped bustier gown with laced-back corset-detail.’

Swift dressed up the gown with long black gloves, 300 carats of diamonds in necklace form, and a chic custom-made wristwatch choker by celebrity jewellery maestro Lorraine Schwartz.

Another strong contender in our list of potential wedding dress designers for Taylor Swift, Nicole + Felicia Couture is a mainstay on the Speak Now set of the Eras tour. The maison has produced three of Swift’s Eras tour gowns to date: a stunning layered lilac tulle ballgown, an exquisite gold-toned crystal-embellished ballgown, and an exquisite halter gown in shimmering baby blue.

Even more amazingly, Swift also tapped the Taipei-based brand to create her wedding gown in the music video for “I Bet You Think About Me”, which was directed by her close friend, Blake Lively. The extraordinary gown and its red replica, which each featured a strapless neckline, a voluminous skirt and train, and 2,500 flower appliqués handmade in different shades of tulle, organza and netting took the atelier approximately 1,200 hours to complete.

Stella McCartney

Daughter to Beatles legend Paul McCartney and fashion designer, Stella McCartney is no stranger to wedding gown design. In 2018, McCartney was chosen to design the second wedding dress of Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex as she married Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex in an elaborate ceremony. McCartney’s vision materialised in the form of a chic, slinky mermaid gown with a modern halter neckline, one that echoed the fashion sensibilities of a 21st century woman. Given McCartney’s close friendship with Swift, it would not at all be surprising if she were eventually tapped to design the songstress’ wedding gown upon confirmation of an engagement and wedding.
