After a heartwrenching finale, fans of Mr. Plankton are wondering whether a season 2 of the K-drama will ever happen. One of the most anticipated shows of 2024, it is directed by Hong Jong-chan and has been winning the hearts of critics and fans alike since its release on 8 November. Here’s everything we know about the possibility of season 2 of Mr. Plankton.
Penned by scriptwriter Jo Yong, known for highest-rated romantic K-dramas like It’s Okay to Not Be Okay, Mr. Plankton’s story follows terminally ill Hae-jo’s (played by Woo Do-hwan) journey to find his biological father in what may be the final adventure of his life. He is accompanied by his ex-girlfriend Jae-mi (played by Lee You-mi), who after learning about her premature menopause, chooses to run away from her marriage with Eo-heung (played by Oh Jung-se), an honest man from a traditional Korean family.
Talking about the main message of the Netflix original K-drama, director Hong said during a 2024 press conference, “It is actually hard to pinpoint a single message that the drama aims to convey, but one thing is certain: Everything, like plankton, carries inherent value and purpose. While plankton may be tiny and nearly invisible, it plays a vital role in producing oxygen, helping sustain life on Earth. The title suggests that everyone, no matter how small they feel, plays an essential role in the world.”
What happens in the last episode of the K-drama Mr. Plankton?
