Are your sneakers facing the monotony lately? If you’re anything like us and the bland collection sitting on your rack is giving you major FOMO. We both have some catching up to do because the trends are in and we’re all picking our favourites.
The footwear trends have been hopping back and forth with the retro aesthetic this season. From a brief athletic moment in summers with bloke-core blooming in full glory, sneakers have leapt into their nostalgic era. We’re revisiting earthy hues to ‘60s suedes alongside colour popping slim sneakers because it’s all about keeping it low-profile or walking in with a bang this month. Middle grounds aside, and white canvases off our list, when it comes to sneakers, we mean business.
Our favourite sneakers for fall:
Suede, sambas and subsidiaries
The fall epitome of sneakers lies in plain sight, Adidas sambas that have been floating about every webpage, and billboard to say the least. To a point that my Pinterest needs a break. Characterised by their sleek, streamlined bodies and suede-like surface, these heritage classics are making a run for the money when it comes to street style. From Gazelle to Stella McCartney, the suede is all over the season and the incorporation of the same in footwear is a match made in heaven. Enter suede trainers. Being a highlight in Emporio Armani and Kenzo’s Spring/Summer ’25, these shoes are here to amp up your collection. Pair them up with your favourite cargo, a button-up T-shirt and a crew sock to call it an ensemble because these babies alongside sambas are the heat this month.
Into the normcore of foldovers
Running parallel to the sambas are the foldovers. Lengthening the last leg of the run with Puma X FENTY, a recent collaboration. These are but sambas with an extra silhouette on top. Serving peak retro with their country sneaker format, if sambas are too mainstream for your taste, you cannot go wrong with a foldover sneaker. With recent releases like Nike Killshot 2 Premium and Adidas X Wales Bonner hitting the streets, these sneakers are taking over half the market that sambas are catering to. Also witnessed in Alessandro Michelle’s Gucci, we’re stepping in fresh with foldovers this year.
Comfy cloud runners
Who wouldn’t want a voluminous sneaker when the season finally puts a stamp on it? Enter chunky kicks. With numerous inspo-boards solely dedicated to these cushy babies, these sneakers are here to stay. The Scandinavian fashionistas would nod to the ensemble of a tiered skirt or tailored pants, white socks along cushy sneakers for your next OOTD. Witnessed in Tory Burch’s, Stella McCartney well as Eckhaus Latta, these bold and dynamic shoes fuel “Gorpcore.” And if nothing else, comfy runners are simply a great styling option. So, grab a pair while they’re still available until a major trend picks them.
New neutrals
We all had a brief beige moment this year, with everyone frolicking around with the minimalist hues of browns and muted caramel, neutrals had an addition. There’s no returning to roots without an earthy palette and textures. Strutting their way in with The Row and Loewe earlier this year, say hello to green, and gold scales of new neutrals. While we all had an idea that the major three would have their breakthrough moment in footwear, turns out, that the more the merrier. With Miu Miu and New Balance’s collaboration, this twist to minimalism paves the way for subtle sophistication while keeping up with the athletic nature of sneakers.
