On 13 November 2024, Shah Rukh Khan announced the re-release of the iconic movie, Karan Arjun, in theatres. Also starring Salman Khan, the Rakesh Roshan directorial will be released in cinemas on 22 November 2024, allowing the young audience to relive the charm and magic of the movie on the big screen. Needless to say, the announcement blew up on social media as fans of King Khan went gaga over it. However, Karan Arjun is not the only classic film set to run in theatres again in 2024. Filmmakers are participating in a new trend that allows them to re-release old Bollywood movies in theatres, giving them a second chance at glory.
This resurgence is a result of the growing appetite for cinematic experiences of old movies. The audience is looking for every opportunity to connect with classic movies that paved the way for modern Bollywood. From Rockstar (2011) to Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013), a re-release of these movies has not only benefitted cinema halls but also delighted fans who got to relive the entertainment. The reception has been overwhelming as the trend continues to be picked up by many producers.
Shah Rukh Khan‘s two films, Karan Arjun (1995) and Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003), will run in theatres once again. The massive success of these re-releases once again confirms that OTT cannot replicate the glorious reception that films receive in a traditional movie-going experience.
