Samsen is opening its much-awaited third branch, and this time, it’s coming to Central! The new location is set to be on On Lan Street, just a block away from the busy Queen’s Road Central. Aside from its signature dishes, diners will also be able to enjoy new store-exclusive items only found in Central.
Co-founders Bella Kong and Adam Cliff first opened Samsen in Wan Chai in 2016, followed by a second store in Sheung Wan in 2019. Since its initial launch, Samsen has become an iconic and go-to name in Hong Kong for Thai food. Its signature dishes like the Samsen Wagyu beef boat noodle soup, khao soi curried chicken noodles, and wok fried rice of crab meat quickly became crowd favourites. Now, Hong Kong’s favourite Thai restaurant Samsen is finally unveiling its third outlet in Central.
New dishes coming to Samsen Central
Of course, Samsen’s most well-loved dishes will still be available in the new location. However, diners should not miss out on the new items coming to the Central store. Among them are a crispy omelette of baby oysters and spring onion. It’s Samsen’s take on the Thai oyster omelette that’s crispy on the edges while still gooey in the middle. Other new dishes include a variety of stir-fries, salads, and desserts that are exclusive to Samsen Central.
The drinks menu is also getting a revamp. The classic fresh fruit smoothies and non-alcoholic spritzers are still on the menu. Additionally, there will be a selection of new cocktails and an extensive wine and champagne list at the Central location. Cocktails include drinks like the lychee and coconut gimlet, the Chiang Mai sour, and the “Sap-pa-rot” margarita.
What to expect from the new location
Like all the other outlets, the new branch embraces the Thai vintage shophouse aesthetic. Designed by Studio Haig, the shop features corrugated iron awning and tall wooden doors. Retro posters, vintage Thai graphics, and artwork by multidisciplinary artist Chris Kong layer the distressed concrete walls.
Samsen Central is opening its doors on October 23. For now, it will only be open for dinner, but lunch service will be coming in the near future.
