BYD’s Denza opens showroom in Wan Chai, Hong Kong

BYD‘s luxury EV brand Denza has officially taken over the 14,000 square-foot ground floor showroom at the Capital Centre in Wan Chai. Now operated by Harmony Automobile, the space was previously occupied by Porsche who’ve since moved to 163 Queen’s Road East.

The move comes amidst a larger trend of mainland China EV makers setting up infrastructure in the city with Neta Auto and XPeng opening their first Hong Kong showrooms in May and AION launching their third showroom in Sha Tin earlier this June.

The percentage of electric private cars in Hong Kong has soared over the last few years from 6.3 percent in 2019 to 64.1 percent in November 2023. In Hong Kong’s Climate Action Plan 2050 released in 2021, green transport was a vital component in its goal of carbon neutrality. By 2035 or earlier, the government aims to completely cease new registration of fuel-propelled and private cars.

The DENZA Wan Chai showroom officially debuts the popular DENZA D9 in Hong Kong, introducing a high-end and sustainable 7-seater MPV option to the city. Equipped with ten-point massage chairs, refrigerators, and optional Devialet sound systems, the DENZA D9 is a serious competitor in the luxury automotive segment. In addition to offerings from the DENZA brand, the showroom also builds the only BYD technology display area in Hong Kong.

Reportedly securing more than 10,000 orders on opening day, DENZA is off to a strong start as it joins the likes of Lotus, BMW, Volvo, and Alfa Romeo on Gloucester Road.
