Polestar enters smartphone market with first phone

Another smartphone has entered the market, and you would never guess who produces it — Polestar.

Swedish electric automotive manufacturer Polestar has just announced a new smartphone dubbed the Polestar Phone. At first glance, it looks as if it carries a clean design much like the iPhone but is slightly elongated (21:9 aspect ratio) with with four vertically aligned camera lenses at the rear.

Most of the phone is white except for the Polestar chevron logo and the very bottom lens which has a ring of gold. The name “Polestar” can be found engraved on the side and also on the back of the phone, and there are also two buttons on the side.

For this smartphone release, Polestar has partnered with the 11th largest smartphone manufacturer in the world, Chinese consumer electronics manufacturer, Meizu. If you are wondering what the connection is, Polestar is a subsidiary of Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co., Ltd. which also happens to own Meizu.

There’s no release date or pricing, but the idea that new players are entering the phone market could make for interesting times in the next couple of years.
