Bang & Olufsen revisits the cult Beosound 9000 in latest “Recreated Classics”

Bang & Olufsen‘s latest system to receive a full rebuild and restoration is the Beosound 9000 CD player.

Recreated as the Beosystem 9000c music system, this new release is part of the Danish luxury audio brand’s “Recreated Classics” series and comes just after B&O’s Beogram 4000c recreation.

Paired with Bang & Olufsen’s modern Beolab 28, the Beosystem 9000c maintains David Lewis’ cult design language in the Beosound 9000, with its visible six-CD changer array and elongated form. “With our Recreated Classics series, we are showcasing how Bang & Olufsen’s unique capabilities within sound, design, and craftsmanship are creating long-lasting, circular products. We want to demonstrate that a second-life product can be just as attractive as a new product and that a high-quality item such as the Beosound 9000 doesn’t need to have an end date,” says Mads Kogsgaard Hansen, Head of Product Circularity & Portfolio Planning at Bang & Olufsen.

Built in a limited run, a team was sent out to source, inspect, and painstakingly clean and repair 200 Beosound 9000 CD player units. These units were then built back from the ground up and brought into 2024 with new updates like inverting the original deep black and natural aluminium finishes, re-machining and re-anodising all aluminium elements and original parts, and replacing all worn components.

“We wanted to enhance the graphic edge of Beosound 9000 whilst maintaining the integrity of the original design. To do this, we introduced a Cosmic Black finish to Beosound 9000’s aluminium back plate so that the CDs stand out even more as artwork which was Lewis’ original design intention. This creates a stark contrast against the Natural Aluminium on the control panel, creating a bold and modern finish whilst referencing the 90’s aesthetic of the original CD player,” says Tiina Kierysch, Head of Design at Bang & Olufsen.

A lot of the magic is also found in the Beolab 28 wireless speakers. The entire music system can be controlled with the Beoremote or smartphone where users can make use of Airplay 2, Chromecast, and Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity. Priced at 425,000 HKD, 200 of these “Recreated Classics” are available for order at selected Bang & Olufsen stores worldwide.
