Figure’s 02 robot could be the most powerful humanoid robot yet.
Figure AI is a billion-dollar startup backed by Jeff Bezos, Nvidia, Microsoft, and OpenAI. It also has a commercial agreement with BMW Manufacturing to test each of them at its production line in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Standing 5’6″, and weighing 70KG, the Figure 02 robot can lift up to 20KG and can run up to five hours on a charge. Marketed as the first commercially-viable autonomous humanoid robot, Figure AI aims at putting to market these robots to assist in labour and in situations that could be dangerous for humans.
The sleek robot is powered by AI and as scary as it sounds, can self-correct and has “learned behaviour.” On top of being able to walk up stairs, lift boxes, and place objects down, its fourth-generation hands now have 16 degrees of freedom which allows the Figure 02 to open doors and use tools.
Figure AI writes on its website, “With the first humanoid by our side in the workforce, we’ll have the ability to create and produce so much more, address drastic labor shortages, and reduce the number of workers in unsafe jobs.”
For more news on robotics, the first “robot suicide” has just been documented in South Korea.
