New phone, new look

Apple officially announced the much-awaited iPhone 16 in the September 9 event, “It’s Glowtime”. A first look at the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus reveals a bright and vibrant look. The new smartphones come in five colours: Black, White, Pink, Teal, and Ultramarine. The base line comes with a 6.1-inch display while the Plus line boasts a 6.7-inch display. Aside from an upgraded battery life, it will come equipped with a powerful 48MP Fusion camera with a 2x Telephoto option.

A18 chip and Apple Intelligence

Excitingly, the base Apple iPhone 16 will utilise the developer’s latest chip. Previously, this was something reserved only for the Pro and Pro Max lines. With the new A18 chip, expect to see a huge improvement in performance and efficiency. This allows you to do even more at once, including demanding AAA games. Most importantly, the chip will be compatible with Apple Intelligence. This “personal intelligence system” provides personalised support, whether it’s enhancing writing or summarising content. While it won’t be available on release, this feature will be available as a free software update starting next month.

All-new Camera Control button

The Apple iPhone 16 line-up introduces the new Camera Control button. Users can press the tactile button to launch the camera, take a photo, and start video recording. A new camera preview will also allow more adjustment to a shot, including zoom, exposure, and depth of field. Later on, the Camera Control button will also launch a new visual intelligence. Additionally, the Action button that was introduced in the iPhone 15 Pro will be on the entire iPhone 16 line-up.

Apple iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max

Put simply, the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max are bigger and even better. With a display of 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch respectively, these new models are some of the largest we’ve seen with the thinnest borders yet. Users can choose from four colours: Black Titanium, Natural Titanium, White Titanium, and Desert Titanium. It has many of the same features as the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus, such as the Apple Intelligence and the Camera Control button. However, the premium phones boast more AI features and better battery life thanks to the A18 Pro chip. Furthermore, it will be capable of shooting in 4K at 120 fps, unlocking a whole realm of creative possibilities right in your palm.

Apple iPhone 16 prices and release date

Now that we’ve discussed the features, how can you get your hands on the new phones? The full line-up will be available for pre-order in Hong Kong starting from September 13 at 8 p.m. HKT. All four phones will officially launch in Apple Stores across Hong Kong on September 20.
