Find the best time to visit Bali for good weather, travel deals, and island adventures

Bali’s fascinating blend of unique culture and breathtaking nature has always mesmerised travellers. Called the “Island of Gods”, this hot destination in Indonesia is a must-visit for beach lovers, as the never-ending coastline is home to Seminyak, Jimbaran, Canggu and other coastal towns with pristine beaches and blue waters. Its vibrant nightlife and unique culture make it a holiday spot globally. Before planning your island adventure, it’s crucial to know the best time to visit Bali to make the most of your trip.

The tropical island experiences two main seasons: dry and wet. During the dry season, you can expect sunny days, clear skies, and pleasant weather, whereas the wet season offers unpredictable rain showers and high humidity. Nonetheless, Bali can be visited all year round as each season shows a different side of the island, worth exploring. Bali’s peak season is around the holidays, ranging from the summer break months of June, July, and August to the year-end holidays in December. The low season is February, April, May, September, and October, when there aren’t any major holidays.

The dry season promises pleasant weather in Bali; April through September are great months to visit. July to September is its peak season, as the Northern Hemisphere experiences summer, and Bali serves as the ideal escape from the sweltering heat. The shoulder season of April to June and September to October is known for fewer crowds and lower prices, making it an equally opportune time to enjoy Bali’s wonderful weather.

Best time for a budget vacation in Bali

Bali becomes more affordable during November-March due to rains. December and January are usually the wettest months in Bali, although it doesn’t always rain. You can expect warm, sunny days with average temperatures of 26°C during this period, but don’t forget to keep an umbrella handy, lest you get caught in the occasional tropical downpours. The showers make it less crowded than at other times of the year. Keep an eye on these months as flights and hotels tend to have lower prices, making it the best time for a budget vacation in Bali.

Bali’s scuba diving hotspots, such as Secret Bay, Menjangan Island, Pemuteran, Tulamben, Amed, Candidasa, and Padang Bai, are best experienced from May to November. If you wish to spot Manta Rays, April to May is the best time, while August to October is the best time for Ocean sunfish, according to PADI.

Besides Bali, discover the most beautiful destinations known for the best scuba diving in the world.

The best time to catch waves in Kuta, Canggu, Nusa Lembongan, Bukit Peninsula, and other surf destinations is during the dry season. You can find the peak swell season in June, July, and August, but the places are full, with long queues to surf. If you want to surf in lesser crowds, try April, May, September, and October. The rainy season is ideal for surfing at Keramas, Sanur Reef, Nusa Dua and Serangan since waves start to form for the ideal surfing adventure. It is also less crowded during the wet season.

Is there a bad time to visit Bali?

Bali is a year-round destination, so there is no bad time to visit as such! Still, outdoor enthusiasts might consider the wet season from October to March less ideal. While the rain showers don’t last all day, the high humidity and unpredictable cloudy skies make it less ideal for outdoor activities. The intensity of the wet season changes every year, so it is best to learn about the weather before you plan a vacation.
