InterNations has published the Quality Of Life Index 2024, and this year, the European nations are clearly dominating, with Asian and Middle Eastern entries like Singapore, South Korea, Japan, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates also making it to the top 10.
According to the United Nations, over 232 million people from across the world migrate in search of better living conditions. The Quality Of Life index gauges the liveability factor, analysing countries on factors like GDP, healthcare, safety, and social amenities.

Spain clinched the first spot for the third time in a row. The country is a hit among expatriates, owing to its well-oiled and affordable public transport network, a plethora of recreational options, easily accessible healthcare, as well as cultural and nightlife avenues.
“There’s a lot to enjoy and see: a lot of parks, roads for bicycles, and it’s easy to play sports. I also like the museums and festivals here,” remarked a Russian expat, according to the Quality Of Life Index, under the Expat Insider 2024, by Internations.
Close on its heels are Austria and the United Arab Emirates. While the UAE offers seamless travel and transit options, its natural environment (owing to excessive heat) makes it unfavourable for visitors to explore the outdoors for long periods.
The three Asian destinations, namely Japan (6th position), Singapore (9th position), and South Korea (1oth position), scored high in the Travel and Transit subcategory in the Quality of Life Index 2024. Among these, Singapore emerged at the highest spot, with 96 percent of expats lauding the Lion City’s efficient public transportation system. These countries are also touted for their safety standards, with South Korea closing in at the 1st place, and Japan ranking 7th.
Recurring trends among the 10 countries offering the best quality of life in 2024 include favourable climate and environmental conditions, safety and security, and affordability of public transportation.
