Jogging for 15 km

There’s an interesting backstory to how Ji Sung started his fitness journey. In a previous interview, Sung revealed he was lost and struggling during his debut period in his 20s. It was then that he sought comfort in alcohol. The actor mentioned that he couldn’t do much to alleviate feelings of depression.

At that time, Ji Sung struggled because his father was against his decision to join the entertainment industry and his parents went through a divorce. However, he soon realised that alcohol and escapism weren’t the solution and he instead turned to jogging to cure the emptiness.

Stressing that jogging meant a lot to him, Sung said that the workout helped him ‘wash away the trauma of the past which alcohol could not get rid of’. Even in the midst of his intense filming schedule for Good Friends, the actor woke up early in the morning and jogged for 15 km every day. Now, isn’t that inspirational?

According to Live Journal, Sung added,” When I run, I get fresh energy. I can get over my slump and overcome things I struggle with.”

Jogging 15 km in the morning daily explains how the actor has maintained his chiselled body to date!

Fun fact: To test his physical fitness, the actor became a part of the 2020 variety show Run, which required participants to run the 36th Florence Marathon spanning 42 km. He finished the marathon swiftly in 4 hours, 9 minutes and 16 seconds.

Running on a treadmill and weight training

In an article by Allkpop, it was revealed that Ji Sung once managed to lose 13 kgs in just three weeks. His workout? 40 minutes of sweating it out on a treadmill followed by 20 mins of weight training.

A treadmill provides an efficient aerobic workout, making it the go-to home exercise equipment for many people who can’t squeeze in the time to hit the gym or workout outdoors. Running on a treadmill is a high-impact form of exercise that expedites your weight loss journey. Moreover, having a treadmill at home might lead you to move your body more often as you can exercise in a familiar, low-stress environment at your own pace.

If you want to up the ante, follow your treadmill sessions with weight training like Sung. A study published on the Harvard School of Public Health website states that only 30 to 60 minutes a week of weight/strength training is enough. Those who worked out for this duration had a 10% to 20% lesser risk of dying from all causes, including cancer and cardiovascular illness than those who didn’t practice strength training at all.

Multiple studies recommend that at a beginner level, you should do strength training exercises for all major muscle groups at least two or three times a week. It not only improves your muscle strength and tone but also protects your joints from injury. Moreover, strength training boosts flexibility, and balance and leads to greater stamina. All this with an improved sense of mental well-being.
