Jessi joins us for our latest conversation during her stopover in Hong Kong for the WATERBOMB Festival 2024.
With years in the music game, Jessi is no stranger to the entertainment business, and as one of the queens of hip-hop in Seoul, Jessi has had years to navigate the waters of South Korea’s entertainment industry. Finally able to officially call herself an independent artist, Jessi attributes her success to her reliance on her “gut” feeling and the incredible team she is currently surrounded by.
Jessi admits that, regardless of her opinionated and bold attitude, she is a softie, and that her kindness has often been taken as a weakness. Now as an independent artist, she feels more confident than ever that she is walking the right path, and that she was born to be a boss. With running her label, Jessi is ready to be herself and work at her own pace rather than the pace of the entertainment machine.
Her goals have also changed with age and experiences. She jokingly points out that when she got into the industry, she had dreams of money and fame, but those ambitions have changed to just being healthy and happy, and developing a happy team. At 35 years old, Jessi has also taken some time to reflect on her family, her upbringing, and the idea of having a family of her own.
There’s a certain aura about Jessi. She brings that confidence, sex appeal, and positivity from the heart. Big label or not, her passion for what she does is recognised and understood by her fans and will carry over to her as an independent artist. Her next chapter in life is less about herself and more about uplifting those around her.
