She has an estimated wealth of USD 750 million or HKD 5.8 billion, just a little less than the net worth of King Charles III. She is the daughter of Indian billionaire and Infosys co-founder N.R. Narayan Murthy. Her husband is UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. As such, she is the current first lady of Britain. We’re talking about Akshata Murthy, whose net worth in 2024 has become the subject of media attention in the UK.

A larger proportion of Akshata Murthy’s wealth comes from the approximate 0.9 per cent stake in Infosys – the Indian software giant. As per several reports, the 42-year-old holds around 38.9 million shares of the company.

According to Sunday Times Rich List 2024, her shares in Infosys grew in value by GBP 108.8 million (HKD 1 bilion) to nearly GBP 590 million (HKD 5.8 billion) for the year.

The overall net worth of Rishi Sukank and Akshata Murthy, according to the 2024 rich list, is GBP 651 million (HKD 6.4 billion), up from GBP 529 million (HKD 5.2 billion) from the year prior.

As is clear, it is the personal net worth of Akshata Murthy that makes up for 90 per cent of the couple’s fortune.

Apart from holding Infosys shares and stake, Murthy has other entities from which she earns a fair share.

Catamaran Ventures

The venture capital and equity firm, which was funded by N.R. Narayan Murthy, employs 4,000 people in India, France and the US, and has holdings worth more than USD 1 billion (HKD 7.8 billion).

Akshata Murthy is the director at Catamaran Ventures UK, the UK arm of the main company, since 2013. The firm focuses on local brands that require management expertise, capital, as well as network partners to grow tactically.

It was reported in September 2023 that the UK firm is going to close its business. The firm was eventually shut down in December the same year.

New & Lingwood

Since 2017, Murthy has been the director of this heritage outfitter company. As per reports, she stepped down from her role as director in February 2022. However, nothing concrete can be said about the same. New & Lingwood reportedly outfitted students of Eton College.

Digme

A fitness company based in London, Digme offers fitness programmes at studios and homes in Covent Garden, Bank, Moorgate, and Richmond.

Murthy served as Digme’s director from 2017 till January 2022. The company went into administration in February. Reports from 2022 suggest that she reportedly owned a 4.4 per cent stake in the business.

Akshata Murthy education

Akshata Murthy is a graduate from Claremont McKenna College in California with a degree in French and Economics. She also has an MBA degree from Stanford University. In 2007 she had set up her own business, Akshata Designs, which celebrated Indian culture. The business was shut down after operating for three years.

Conclusion

While Akshata Murthy has been under the radar for a lot of controversies in the past and has donned many roles, it is will be interesting to see her stepping in the role of UK’s first lady now.
