BAPE GALLERY™ recently held an exhibition at the first ComplexCon in Asia where they celebrated the works of Arkiv Vilmansa (Indonesia), Oso de Agua (Peru), Simone Legno (Italy), Stash (USA), and Tomotatsu Gima (Japan).
As a familiar collaborator with BAPE, Stash (Josh Franklin) has done numerous works with the brand and is no stranger to streetwear. Starting off a lot like his other established contemporaries, Stash’s canvas of choice in the ’80s was New York City itself — often tagging trains with the likes of Futura. Using his signature blue hue and hand style, Stash’s works are easily recognisable and he’s amassed a cult following throughout the years.
BAPE GALLERY™ has existed since 2002 and is BAPE’s artistic outlet that embodies and strives to seamlessly blend the essence of art, culture, and fashion through its distinct lens. In the past, it has collaborated with the likes of Hajime Sorayama, KAWS, FUTURA, Stash, Tetsu Nishiyama, and Takahiro Miyashita. As part of the gallery’s initiative during ComplexCon, a special BAPE® ART SPACE was on display where fans could interact with the artists mentioned above. At the same time, they could enjoy and purchase art from the BAPE GALLERY.
On top of full original canvases, stunning prints were also available on-site. Each of the prints were made using micro-spraying technology to accurately restore the colors, strokes, and details of the original works, and were signed and numbered.
Joining us at the show, Stash walked us through the entire works that he prepared for ComplexCon and a bit of his live mural painting. Check out the video for a full breakdown of the Stash BAPE GALLERY™ artwork from the artist himself.
