Affordable Art Fair Hong Kong 2024 saw an impressive turnout of over 23,000 visitors

Affordable Art Fair Hong Kong 2024 was one to remember, showcasing an expansive selection of contemporary artworks from 97 local and international exhibitors. This year’s event saw an impressive turnout of over 23,000 visitors across the 4-day art fair.

Themed ‘I am an art collector,’ the 11th edition allowed fare-goers (and first-time art collectors) to purchase artworks for under HK$100,000. It culminated in a total of HK$30 million of artworks sold.

Significantly, this year’s edition marked the 25th Anniversary of the International Affordable Art Fair, welcoming a grand total of over 3.3 million visitors across the world since its inception in 1999.

The Fair featured local galleries and a range of international exhibitors hailing from Asia, Europe, Australia and the US, embodying its long-standing ethos of supporting young and upcoming talents. Notable mentions include the spotlight of local and influential Japanese artists by Hong Kong-based TOUCH Gallery and Espai Cavallers Gallery from Spain, which featured both upcoming and established artists.

Affordable Art Fair 2024 also dedicated space to local artists with ‘Special Projects.’ The six units and galleries consisted of large-scale installations, performances and activations. One highlight was ‘Neon’, a speakeasy bar curated by Jonathan Jay Lee as a charming homage to Hong Kong’s local culture, co-presented by the Hong Kong Tourism Board.

The Fair’s enduring focus on supporting young artists was strongly apparent. Fresh newcomer, 73 Gallery, presented works inspired by nature and life, highlighting the creations of young and outstanding Chinese contemporary artists. Meanwhile, the Young Talent Hong Kong programme helmed an exhibition presenting the work of seven emerging Hong Kong artists, interpreting the theme of ‘Landscape Mindscape’ through different mediums and perspectives.

Partners to Affordable Art Fair 2024 championed the shared goal of strengthening the local arts scene by way of their eye-catching installations and experiences. The Bank of China presented a fantastical art activation by Korean artist Yihong Hsu, displaying the artist’s signature flora and fauna characters.

Affordable Art Fair and Art Loop made sure smaller guests did not lack for entertainment, with the organisation of family-friendly art tours and workshops. STOKKE and Venture Studios provided the thoughtful touches of strollers and family photo-taking services, and proceeds were donated to Mother’s Choice.
