Abandoned primary school is transformed into “Koon Man Space” art hub in New Territories

Koon Man Space is a new art hub co-created by the Hong Kong International Photo Festival (HKIFP) and the Hong Kong Photographic Culture Association (HKPCA) situated at a 60-year-old abandoned primary school in the New Territories. After 4 years of refurbishment, it is now open to the public.

Koon Man Space

Koon Man Space is located in Chuen Lung, one of the oldest Hakka villages in Hong Kong’s New Territories. As the site for exhibitions and public events, it also features a Photography Salon, the Chuen Lung Ecology Research Residency and Guide Training Programme, and a Photobook Corner.

With its distinctive cultural landscapes and ecological characteristics, this space inspires artists and the general public’s image-making, discussion, learning, and imagination regarding Hakka culture.

Inaugural Exhibitions

The inaugural exhibitions are “The Rock and the Gaze” and “Bits and Bobs” by the artists in residence Ki Wong and Pak Chai. They’ve spent the last two years living as locals to immerse themselves in the village’s culture. Based on their living experiences and villagers’ stories, the exhibitions introduce the Chuen Lung village from different angles. Including the quiescent Heung Shek rock and the villagers’ stomping ground, Tai Mo Shan.

Opening times: Thursday to Sunday between 11:00 and 18:00
Location: 338 Route Twisk, Cheun Long Village, Tsuen Wan
