Jump into the whimsical world of Margot Bird in Diving Boards and Vehicles exhibition

Up-and-coming artist Margot Bird is returning to Hong Kong for her next solo exhibition, Diving Boards and Vehicles. Here, classic still-life studies and renowned artists take a whimsical turn on Bird’s canvas alongside her signature feline icons. Catch the artist’s surreal world at Seefood Room Gallery from June 14 to July 6.

The Massachusetts-based artist is coming back to Hong Kong for another solo exhibition. Curated by Ascend Projects and presented by Seefood Room Gallery, Diving Boards and Vehicles invites visitors to jump into Margot Bird’s fantastical universe.

The collection features two series, “Diving Boards” and “Vehicles.” Various cats’ heads dot the canvas as strawberry seeds or on a vehicle’s dashboard. The landscape in the background borrows its colours and shapes from nature, but it looks unlike anything in real life.

The “Diving Boards” series presents fruits and legumes as you would find on a regular still-life. However, instead of a bowl or a table, the items are instead placed on a diving board, peering over a blend of colours. Will the crops simply bounce anti-climactically? Will they catapult into the vast unknown? Are they still a “still” life once placed on such a volatile platform?

On the other hand, “Vehicles” features portraits of renowned artists commanding the wheel of imagined vehicles, riding through the dreamscape created by Margot Bird. As always, feline heads are stuck all over the vehicles they drive. As a painter, she believes artists can give life to their imaginations. Through this ability, she provides the artists in her paintings with fantasy rides in their search for inspiration.

Visit Seefood Room Gallery to catch Diving Boards and Vehicles by Margot Bird between June 14 to July 6.
