Photofairs announces its first Hong Kong edition in March 2025

The contemporary photography art fair Photofairs announced its plans to debut in Hong Kong. The inaugural edition will launch in March 2025 during Art Week. It will run alongside Art Basel in the west of Central Harbourfront, coinciding with Art Central.

Photofairs is bringing its photography-dedicated direction to our city. Artists and galleries from both local and international spaces will present their works exploring the medium and testing the boundaries. Art collectors, enjoyers, and casual visitors can all enjoy a unique perspective on photography.

The inaugural edition is led by Fan Ni, who also directs Photofairs Shanghai. “We are so pleased to bring Photofairs to Hong Kong and to continue our mission to create spaces for the discovery and cultivation of photography in the Asia Pacific region,” she says. “Hong Kong Art Week is a cornerstone in the annual art calendar and we look forward to joining the celebrations and to welcoming galleries, collectors, patrons and visitors to the Central Harbourfront.”

A look into the Photofairs Hong Kong programme

In the debut edition, visitors can explore three sectors in the photography fair. The Main sector features galleries presenting modern and contemporary photography as well as photo-based art. In the Focus sector, solo and dual artist presentations get to show off their works. Finally, the Digital sector highlights the intersection of photography and new technologies. While there is no information on how many booths will be at available yet, the Fair is currently open to applications.

A special VIP programme complements Photofairs with a week of fairs, exhibition openings, and satellite events around the city. Stay tuned for more details on this programme.

Ever-growing Hong Kong arts scene

Over the years, Hong Kong has established itself as the biggest arts destination in Asia. Every year in March, we celebrate Art Week with a series of art exhibitions, fairs, and events. The week culminates in Art Basel and Art Central, the most highly anticipated art fairs each year.

Photofairs is only the most recent addition to the ever-growing Hong Kong arts scene. Next month, we’ll see the debut of the Chinese art fair ART021. The Hong Kong government also readily welcomes these events and provides subsidies for them. However, there is no news on whether Photofairs will receive the same support as of now.
