Rosé and Bruno Mars’ addictive bop is actually inspired by a Korean drinking game. Here’s how to play ‘Apt’.
If you haven’t been living under a rock the past few days then you’ve probably heard the absolute banger that is ‘Apt’, the brand new song by Blackpink’s very own Rosé and the talented Bruno Mars. The song is as catchy as a cold during flu season as that earwormy chorus replays over and over in your head. There’s no doubt that the song will be in many people’s Spotify Wrapped this year.
But that addicting chorus that makes you want to bop is actually a Korean drinking game and Rose has been teaching it to her friends for a while now. Now that the single is out, the 27-year-old is also teaching the rest of the world how to play it. Read on to find out how to play the drinking game behind ‘Apt’.

If you can resist bopping your head and singing “Apateu, apateu” for just a few moments, read this step-by-step guide on how to play this simple drinking game that inspired Rosé and Bruno Mars’ single. The Blackpink singer actually posted a guide on how to play the game a few days ago on her TikTok but we break it down for you here.
Game start!
The first few seconds of the song is how you start the game. Rosé explains that since it’s her “favourite game” then everyone sings “Rosé’s favourite game, game start!” We’re assuming that you simply use the name of whoever’s turn it is since you’ll probably be playing multiple rounds.
“Apateu, apateu”
This is the part where you get into the catchy chorus of the song. Sing “Apateu” while waving your hands horizontally, alternating waving one above the other. Sing it three times and then everyone must put their hands in the centre.
Count ‘em up
Whoever’s “favourite game” it is (aka whose turn it is) will yell out a number. Start counting it out and the person whose hand is at the very bottom should move their hand to the top until you’ve counted the number that was yelled.
Drink!
Whoever’s hand ends up at the very top is the unlucky (or lucky?) person who needs to take a drink or shot.
That’s how you play ‘Apt’! And just in case you’ve forgotten how the song goes, which is very unlikely, here’s the music video for ‘Apt’ by Rosé and Bruno Mars.
