Watches and Wonders 2024 has begun and one of the biggest names in the world of watches, Rolex, has just debuted its new offerings.
Touching on six models, these creations span from the GMT-Master II, down to the newer Perpetual 1908 dress model. On top of these new watches, news struck that Rolex discontinued not only the Yacht-Master II, but the “Le Mans” Daytona, and Datejust models with palm and fluted dials.
Know for not making radical changes to its iconic models (with some exceptions), Rolex tends to make subtle technical enhancements each year with the addition of colors and materials. This year stays on brand for the watch brand where several models come to life in new trims. Check out the new releases below:
The New GMT-Master II
A classic just got better with the new GMT-Master II in Oystersteel. The travel-friendly watch now comes in two Oystersteel variations (Oyster or Jubilee bracelet) and has the subtle 24-hour graduated two-colour Cerachrom bezel insert in grey and black ceramic (Gris/Noir). This graduation of colour is clearly visible thanks to the technique introduced last year that involves a platinum coating applied via PVD.
The New Day-Date
Rolex calls the new models of the Day-Date “harmonious variations” as we see a plethora of minute details in the form of new colours, materials, motifs, and hour markers. For the new 40mm combinations, 18 ct Everose gold is matched with a slate ombré dial, and 18 ct white gold with pearlized white mother-of-pearl. Ten baguette-cut diamonds make up the hour markers for the white gold version. In the 36mm sizes, one version sees 18 ct yellow gold with a white lacquer dial and Roman numeral markers while another 18 ct Everose gold variant shines strong with a blue-green dial and diamond bezel made with 60 trapeze-cut diamonds.
18ct Yellow Gold Blue Dial Oyster Perpetual Rolex Deepsea
One of the cooler releases this year, Rolex has made the Oyster Perpetual Deepsea in full 18 ct yellow gold. As one of Rolex’s more robust watches made for diving, it is interesting to see it in precious metal. It also adopts a winning formula with its blue dial-gold case combo. This watch absolutely pops and its blue extends past just the dial and onto the 60-minute graduated Cerachrom insert in blue ceramic.
MOP Diamond Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona
Revisiting yet another icon, the Daytona is now sporty and elegant with two new precious metals versions. Both versions see diamond hour markers and a bezel set with 36 brilliant-cut diamonds, but one version contains a white mother-of-pearl dial with black mother-of-pearl chronograph counters and an Oysterflex bracelet while the other the opposite with a black mother-of-pearl dial, white mother-of-pearl counters, and an Oyster bracelet.
18ct Gold Oyster Perpetual Sky‑Dweller
Rolex’s sports watch with the most complications now comes in two new 18 ct gold versions with Jubilee bracelets. The first version is crafted in 18 ct Everose gold and features a slate dial, while the second, fashioned from 18 ct yellow gold, displays an intense white dial.
Guilloché Ice Blue Perpetual 1908
Runner-up for my favourite Rolex release this year, the Cellini replacement just loosened up its tie. Arriving in 950 platinum, this super thin dress watch now boasts an ice blue dial featuring a guilloche rice-grain motif. The dial maintains the Perpetual 1908’s 3, 9, and 12 Arabic numerals, and is paired with a brown alligator leather strap. This textured dial adds another dimension to the relatively new watch.
