Cartier has unveiled its latest creations at Watches & Wonders Geneva 2024. This year, the brand continues to play with shapes, creating innovative and recognisable objects of desire.
With “magic” running as the common thread through this edition of W&W, the new Cartier timepieces offer something for every occasion through the exploration of the “most formal to the most abstract, the most technical to the most precious, and from the most daring to the most fantastic.”
Through tasteful twists on the Maison’s great classics, the new series of Cartier watches are finished with uncompromising style, function, spirit, and unexpected twists. Head below to discover the watch novelties from Cartier for 2024.
Cartier Privé Tortue Monopoussoir Chronograph Watch
The Tortue watch was first conceived in 1912, a powerful creative vision creating a dialogue between curves and taut lines. Following bold redesigns of iconic silhouettes such as the Crash, Tank Cintrée, and the Tonneau, we now receive a new Tortue featuring a Monopoussoir chronograph complication.
While staying faithful to the original design, the new Tortue is now slimmer and lighter with its horns stretched along the strap. Paying tribute to the original model, apple-shaped hands dance across the dial and a rail-track echoes the shape of the watch around the hour markers for added readability.
At 4.3mm thick, the new Tortue watch is the Maison’s thinnest chronograph. An open back reveals the masterful Manufacture 1928 MC movement and the single push-button integrated into the crown offers seamless start, stop, and reset functions.
The hours/minutes versions are numbered to 200 pieces while the platinum-set version is limited to 50 pieces.
Animal Jewellery Watch
This year’s flashiest silhouette from Cartier comes in the form of a new Animal Jewellery Watch. Found in Rhodium-finish white gold, tsavorite garnets, brilliant-cut diamonds (2.8 cts), and black lacquer, the piece combines the zebra stripes with the crocodile scales in a mesmerising swirl. Each stripe is lacquered by hand and the engraving around each stone reflects the Maison’s expertise. Strap options include black calfskin and navy blue alligator.
“These new creations add to Cartier’s range of animal timepieces. Figurative or abstract, realistic or fanciful, they convey the beauty of nature,” writes Pierre Rainero, Director of Image, Style and Heritage at Cartier. “For decades, this theme has been reinvented with each new creation, exploring its rich aesthetic, evocative power and symbolic force.”
Reflection de Cartier Watch
Following the Clash [Un]limited and Coussin watches, Reflection de Cartier is another ingenious timepiece steeped in magic and illusion. Removing the line between timepiece and luxury accessory, the Reflection de Cartier appears as an open bracelet set with brilliant-cut diamonds (6.62 cts). The curves ultimately culminate as the gem-like beveled glass dial meets its reflection. Inversed setting for the gems gives the bracelet both a tactile and sparkling look.
Santos de Cartier Dual Time Watch
The new Santos de Cartier Dual Time watch is bold and transformative, just like the pioneering aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont.
Based on one of Cartier’s most recognisable silhouettes, it effortlessly overcomes distance, much like Santos-Dumont did in his time. The watch’s mechanical movement with automatic winding cleverly combines two time zones. It allows you to easily keep track of both your current location and your home time simultaneously. And the best part is, it doesn’t compromise on its usual durability and reliability.
The watch’s design is both sleek and ergonomic, with tapered lines that harmoniously connect the case and bracelet. Every detail exudes elegance, from the luminescent rhodium-finish sword-shaped hands to the seven-sided faceted crown. A grey counter displays a second adjustable time zone, adding to the watch’s functionality and style.
Santos-Dumont Rewind
Last but certainly not least, we have the Santos-Dumont Rewind found in an unmissable carnelian dial with inverted Roman numerals. Bold and full of subtle nuances, this limited edition timepiece is found in platinum. The crown is set with a ruby cabochon and the case back is engraved with the signature of Alberto Santos-Dumont in celebration of the pioneering spirit of Santos-Dumont.
As the name hints, the apple-shaped hands of this watch equipped with Cartier’s mechanical movement (calibre 230 MC) exhibit a unique and captivating feature — they gracefully move in a reverse direction through reversed manual winding.
The Santos-Dumont Rewind is limited to 200 numbered pieces.
