Daniel Arsham’s Hublot “Droplet” pocket watch can be worn three ways

Hublot has just unveiled its newest collaborative limited edition timepieces with artist Daniel Arsham.

Taking a different approach from designing a watch, Daniel Arsham, under his Arsham Studios venture, has created a versatile pocket watch that can be used in three different ways: a pocket watch, a pendant, and a table clock.

Referencing fluid forms and water droplets, the “Droplet” pocket watch utilises technical materials like titanium, proprietary rubber, and sapphire crystal for a futuristic take on the classic pocket watch. Measuring 73.2mm (length) x 52.6 mm (width) x 22.5 mm (thickness), the droplet shape gives this pocket watch a nice handle for a satisfying grip when viewing the time.

Part sculpture, part horological device, this bold design from Hublot packs its Meca-10 manufacture movement that features 10 full days of power reserve. This movement is perfect for this piece due to the three ways of using it; you can simply place it on your table, carry it around your neck when on the movie via the titanium chain, and then place it on your bedside table where the display is magnified via the sculptural glass stand.

While Hublot often gets flack for its past releases, I think the execution of this is exciting, even if it wasn’t tied to Daniel Arsham. These are the types of releases I enjoy seeing from watch brands. The ones where they dare to take a risk and create something different and with a story. A toned-down version of this would also be a great addition to their regular lineup. As with most limited editions, this one will fetch a premium of  HK$661,000 and will be limited to 99 pieces.
