The esoteric nature of watch collecting brings with it people from all walks of life. The common thread in the watch-collecting community is the passion for these little time-keeping machines on the wrist. In our watch collecting series L/R WRIST, we explore both wrists and what type of jewellery is paired on the other arm… and sometimes it ends up being two watches, or in this case, two people and four watches!
Joined by Manuel Emch, CEO of Louis Erard, and master watchmaker Cédric Johner at The Lavish Attic, we got a look at Louis Erard’s latest collaborative project. As one of the last few remaining independent watchmakers that still solely own and operates an atelier, Cédric Johner has a background in both jewellery and watchmaking. For those who are not familiar with Johner, he has been passionately crafting watches for over 30 years and makes as few as 20-30 watches annually. His commitment to the craft goes as far as him creating each case by hand from a block of metal, he’s a one-man band — just him in a room with a lot of machines and tools.
Bringing the signature design cues of his Abyss watch, Johner and Emch fused its styling with Louis Erard’s signature Regulator layout to produce a standout timepiece that contains the Cédric Johner hexagonal shape he’s known for. The collaborative details continue on with the use of purple and blue, colours often found in Johner’s mainline of watches, and an oscillating weight hand-decorates by Johner himself.
Limited to 178 pieces each, both the Abyss and the Le Régulateur Louis Erard x Cédric Johner are watches for everyday wear and can be dressed up or down. Watch the video above to see how they look on the wrist, and how these two pair their friendly collaboration.
