URWERK brings back the legendary EMC (Electronic Mechanical Control) watch but reinvents it in a new design.
Winning numerous awards including the 2014 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève in the prestigious “Mechanical Exception” and “Innovation” categories, the EMC celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. This new edition celebrates one of the coolest aircraft — the Mach 3+ SR-71 Blackbird strategic reconnaissance aircraft.
On top of having the display of hours, minutes, seconds, and power reserve, the EMC had the first mechanism in a watch that could show the accuracy of the movement via the δ performance indicator. At the touch of a button, the wearer could assess the mechanical movement’s chronometric precision, and go a step further to adjust the setting of the watch to get near-perfect timekeeping.
Developed in conjunction with Jason Sarkoyan and Dr. Roman Sperl of Dreamland, the watch takes on the appearance of an instrument panel and even contains material from the SR-71 fuselage. You can witness the material at the watch’s crank handle which is a proprietary alloy of titanium, aluminium, vanadium, silicon, iron, and molybdenum. “It’s a bit of an insane story, yet at the same time, stories born of passion are the most beautiful, don’t you think?,” says Jason Sarkoyan. The EMC SR-71 is limited to just ten pieces and is priced at CHF150,000. Head to the URWERK website to learn more.
