Maison Margiela has debuted the world’s first “Broken Mirror” pop-up at Pacific Place in Admiralty.
“The space captures a frozen moment, where a shattered mirror cube is about to crumble, revealing a dark and sophisticated interior with aged wooden floor and mirrored stainless steel fixtures,” writes the organisers in an official release. “A subtle and mysterious sound of breaking glass will enhance the immersive experience. With this unexpected and unique space, Maison Margiela invites people to honor the passage of time and the memories attached, capturing the poetic essence of the mirror’s break.”
The outer facade and interior decor are a manifestation of the Maison’s codes which include dressing in haste, the anonymity of lining, and the décortiqué which exposes the essential frames of an item typically hidden from view. A through line in this pop-up are reflections of light and metallic silver hues which have been a central part of the brand’s DNA since 1989.
Highlighted at the pop-up are key pieces from Maison Margiela’s FW24 and FW24 AVP collections including 5AC bags, an APAC-exclusive GLAM SLAM Embroidery bag, the Broken Mirror Tabi, and the new Metallic family.
The limited-edition GLAM SLAM bag is crafted from nappa lambskin and can be worn across the shoulder or carried by hand with a quilted matelassé construction sewn by artisans. Broken Mirror Tabis are introduced in dark grey hues and 5AC bags are revitalised in metallic silver.
In addition to accessories, the pop-up showcases Maison Margiela’s FW24 “Informal Formality” collection inspired by the effortless style of screen legend Katharine Hepburn. Transcending traditional boundaries of femininity and masculinity, the collection subverts silhouettes from classic men’s tailoring and takes cues from school uniforms with collegiate hues of burgundy and dark green paired with soft pastels. Capturing the essence of Hepburn’s rebellious spirit and elegance, the collection meticulously crafts a unique character.
